Fisher Communications, Inc. Scholarships for Minorities

DEADLINE APRIL 30, 2010!

Students must be at least sophomores by Fall 2010 and majoring in Mass Media. A 2.5 GPA and U.S. citizenship are required, and considerations include financial need, academic achievement, and personal qualities as demonstrated by two recommendations and a personal statement.

Students must be permanent residents of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, or Montana in order to use the award at PVAMU.

Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation

This Foundation awards $3,500 to juniors and seniors majoring in TV production. Financial need is considered, and applicants must include an application, personal essay, three letters of recommendation, and an official transcript.

Lagrant Foundation Scholarship

The Lagrant Foundation offers scholarships to minority students (African American, Asian Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/Alaska Native) majoring in marketing, public relations, and/or advertising.

Applicants must have a 2.75 GPA, write an essay about career goals, write paragraphs about activities and awards, and include both a resume and a recommendation letter from a college professor. An official transcript must be sent directly to the Foundation.

Applications must be postmarked by February 26, 2010!

Photojournalism Scholarships (NPPF)

The National Press Photographers Association offers multiple scholarships for undergraduates interested in photojournalism. A completed application and samples of work must be submitted.

There is also a television news scholarship for which applicants must submit “no more than three complete stories (total time for all stories: six minutes) with voice narration and natural sound. Applicants must also include a letter from their professor/advisor.”

Women in Sports Media Scholarship & Internship

All interns receive a $1,000 scholarship from AWSM in addition to whatever pay the internship provides. Copy editing interns receive an additional $1,000 scholarship from the Associated Press Sports Editors. All interns also receive $300 toward travel expenses to the annual AWSM convention, waived convention registration fees and free lodging at the host hotel.

Former AWSM interns now work at top media organizations such as The Associated Press, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, The Washington Post and ESPN.

Applications for the summer 2010 program must be submitted through our new online application system by Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. Eastern time (4 p.m. Central, 3 p.m. Mountain, 2 p.m. Pacific).

Roby W. Hilliard, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

A $3000 scholarship for the 2010-2011 year is available for one outstanding, incoming, first-time freshman majoring in the Department of Languages and Communications. With good academic standing, the recipient can renew the award for 3 additional years for a total of $12,000.

Requirements:
1) Unconditional admission to PVAMU
2) Minimum SAT score of 820 (math + verbal) or ACT composite of 17
3) Minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.5
4) Declared major in Communications, English, or Spanish

Preference:
1) Graduate of Jack Yates High School in Houston, TX

Paperwork to Submit:
1) Completed University General Scholarship Application
2) Letter explaining academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and especially your financial need
3) Unofficial copies of test scores and your high school transcript
4) Copy of your admission letter to PVAMU

Applications must be postmarked by March 26, 2010. Students who do not meet ALL of the requirements listed above will not be considered by the scholarship committee.
